Festival of Lights Around Destin
As Chanukah, the eight-day festival of light that begins on the eve of the 25th of the Jewish month of Kislev, begins this week at sundown on Tuesday, December 16th, there are several events around the Emerald Coast to celebrate.
For our visitors to Destin who are looking for Chanukah events and gatherings, here is a quick list…
A Storytime Children’s Event will be held on Tuesday, December 16th at the Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Crystal Lake Plaza in Destin. Starting at 11 am, Hanukkah Storytime will feature the fun story, Honeyky Hanukah by Woody Guthrie. 850-837-3243
Temple Beth Shalom in Fort Walton Beach will have a Family Chanukah Night on Dec. 19th where families are encouraged to bring their menorahs for a group lighting at 7:30 pm and Chuck London will tell the Chanukah story. Visit http://tbsfwb.com for more details.
Also on December 19th, Temple Beth-El in Pensacola will have its annual Chanukah Shabbat and party at 6 pm.
Chabad of the Emerald Coast will have a Grand Menorah Lighting on Dec. 21 at 4 pm at Harborwalk Village in Destin. There will be free admission for the Lighting of the Menorah on the main stage. Fun for the entire family will include Chanukah music, kids’ activities and delicious treats such as scrumptious donuts and hot latkes. For more information visit ChabadEmeraldCoast.org
B’nai Israel in Panama City also has a Chanukah event planned for the 21st with a Chanukah luncheon at 11 am. Performances by the religious school will be featured. The luncheon is $5 for adults and free for teachers, religious school students and their parents.
