Spring being right around the corner means that soon we can refer to the winter as a time of the past as opposed to the current reality.

With the presence of spring looming, our days are starting to get a little longer which gives us a little more time to go out and play!

We all know that time flies and just as quick as spring approaches, it’ll be in our rear view and we’ll be greeting the summer.

As the seasons change, more people will visit Sea Oats and the Destin area. As the temperatures increase, so does the traffic. Each day more and more people will come to explore all the incredible things that the area has to offer.

In fact, Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection estimates that more than 80 percent of the Emerald Coast’s 4.5 million yearly visitors will visit Destin and its neighbors.

If you’ve been here any time over the course of the past decade you’ll know that the vast majority of our guests visit us during the spring and summer seasons.

Not only do we have millions visiting yearly but we also have thousands of people who call this area home. During the warmer months we all have to share the road and at times it can get pretty frustrating for everybody. Keeping this in mind, you can often avoid a lot of frustration by planning your time on the roads for when it’s not at its peak. Just like other cities, residents here have their commute and their lunch breaks so traffic tends to be heaviest around these times. Remembering this can prevent a lot of frustration. And nobody wants to be frustrated, especially in an area as gorgeous as this!

Sometimes you can’t help but go out and investigate the area, traffic or not. There are options you can take advantage of that will satisfy your desire for fun while keeping you out of the afternoon congestion.

A lot of our attractions are actually within walking distance of each other. Take the opportunity to go on foot when you can. Not only is it good exercise but it affords you an opportunity to explore and take in the whole scene! A lot of the neatest souvenirs and keepsakes you can buy are found at the little shops that can easily be missed while you’re focusing on the roads.

If walking isn’t fast enough for you but you still want the option of exploring every inch of the locale then there are bike rentals nearby. You could even make it your own trip for a day by exploring the nature trails that can be found at places like Henderson State Park and the TopSail Village Preservation State Park.

If you’re tired or want to explore somewhere on the other side of town but don’t want to deal with the hassle of driving there’s always the option of calling one of the local cab companies. Not only do they know the area better than almost anyone but they can offer you a local’s perspective and point you in the direction of some great times that you might not find in the brochures.

There’s so much fun to be had here at various times, it’s almost unavoidable that you’ll be in traffic for at least some point during your stay here. If that does happen remember to smile, take a breath and take your time. Isn’t the point of a vacation relaxing and slowing down your pace?
