Local Destin Food
Most of us don’t give a second thought to the freshly caught seafood we see at the grocery store or eat at the restaurants.
We may not realize it but being a professional fisherman is likely one of the most dangerous jobs. They get salty, wet, sunburned, rip their hands while reeling in fish and work hard in high winds and waves.
The job is rough and these fishermen put in a hard day’s work to supply the area with fresh fish.
Where can you buy fresh fish in Destin?
Harbor Docks Seafood Market is the only waterfront seafood market in the area. You will find the freshest daily catches, Grouper, Red Snapper, Yellowfin Tuna, Swordfish, just to name a few. Buy fresh and take it home to cook or eat at the restaurant.
There are a couple of other nice seafood markets in the area, Sextons Seafood Market and Blalock’s Seafood. Both are in Destin and both provide the fresh caught seafood our local fishermen provide.
There are some very simple ways to prepare fresh fish that even the pickiest eater will enjoy.
Try a simple but tasty broiled fish recipe using fresh butter, lemon juice and cajun seasoning. Lay cleaned filets on broiling pan, season with cajun spices, then melted butter. Squeeze lemon juice on top. Broil 3 minutes or so on each side. Fish flakes easily when done. Serve with wild rice and asparagus or other green vegetable for a simple meal.
The Sea Oats Motel recognizes the hard work and effort of our local fishermen. A big thank you!
