The Destin Diner Is Reopening!
Anyone who has been to Destin in the last 20 years will remember the iconic Destin Diner.
The retro silver diner is hard to miss on the corner of Hwy 98 and Airport Rd. The diner originally opened in 1992 but has been vacant for the last six years. Ā There have been several attempts to reopen the location however each attempt was foiled by setbacks.
Olivier Petit, owner of the Red Bar in Grayton Beach and Louis Louis in Santa Rosa Beach, has announced that he is committed and definitely bringing the Destin Diner back. Reopening the diner is going to be a difficult task as the building in in need of much repair from sitting unoccupied for so long.
āIām having to redo pretty much everything; a new roof, new floors and a new kitchen,ā said Petit. āI want to refurbish it from the ground up.ā
Petit promises to keep the the art deco theme of the restaurant with checkered floors, a long bar and open kitchen. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner that will also seem familiar to those who have dined there before with the exception of diner.
Breakfast and lunch are set to be traditional diner fare while for dinner Petit plans introduce some of his Red Bar menu items like crab cakes and pasta dishes.
Petit also plans the keep the name The Destin Diner as it has become an icon in Destin culture. The Destin Diner is set to open in February of 2015 and is sure to once again be a favorite in Destin dining.
