Favorite Beach Snacks We Love at Sea Oats Motel

Beach time is all about having fun in the sun with your family, and every parent knows that eventually all that excitement will lead to some hungry honeys.

Nobody wants to devote a lot of effort to making snacks, but with a little planning, you can bring some yummy, simple treats along to keep everybody active and happy all day, with plenty of cash left over.

When you’re at the beach, you have to keep in mind our hot, sandy environment when packing a picnic or cooler. You don’t want snacks that will wilt in the heat, or large containers that let sand infiltrate your treats. And you don’t want to have to keep up with a lot of utensils or dishes. The trick is to keep it simple.

For some easy, tasty and handy beach snack ideas, please enjoy these suggestions from the friendly staff at one of the most beautiful beachfront landmarks on the Emerald Coast, the spectacular Sea Oats Motel in sunny Destin, Florida.

Bring in your cooler:

Frozen grapes(green or red seedless)-these are amazingly refreshing, and pack a lot of yummy flavor that is good for you too! Put the grapes into a sealable, ziplock baggie and then place in the freezer portion of your unit’s refrigerator the night before you plan to go to the beach.  Store in a cooler with ice.

Jello Dusted Sliced Wa-Wa melon -you can never go wrong with this simple, healthy treat.  Both the varieties are good, but we recommend the seedless kind.  Cut it up as much as 24 hours ahead of the big day and store in cooler until ready. You can use any jello flavor you like, but we really liked cherry lemonade, and you should place powdered jello on a plate, spreading out evenly. Taking each slice, dip each side, coating it well, on both sides before putting on a cookie sheet in the fridge for at least four hours. Then store in tupperware or ziplock baggie in cooler.  For the adults, try soaking your watermelon in some flavored vodka or liquor the night before, or use the shell of the watermelon, and give the kids the flesh, as a mold for spiked watermelon flavored jello.

Summer Sausage Slices and Cheese-Everyone loves smoked meats, and they make perfect finger snacks for your family.  Include some crackers, and its a party! Try mixing up different cheese cubes or bringing a cheese like Monterey Jack which goes with just about everything.  Be sure to store in the cooler. Add some dill or sweet pickles on the side and everyone will be grubbing.

Veggie Tray– some cherry tomatoes, some broccoli, celery stalks, carrots… served with a couple of tasty dips that are easy to prepare and bring along in portable tubs, make a satisfying mid day snack that will keep your family revved for all the fun yet to come back at the Motel.

Hummus and Pretzel sticks– This will be your new favorite go to snack at the beach or anywhere! Hummus keeps particularly well in a cooler, and the pretzel sticks or pretzel crackers, which is a staff fav, add the right amount of crunch.  Try flavored mixes, like Spicy Red Pepper or Roasted Garlic.

These are just a few of the beach favorites from the Sea Oats Motel, located on a serene stretch of Old Highway 98.

We are the perfect mix of comfort and convenience, and our units come with cozy furniture, spacious rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryers and a private balcony which overlooks our gorgeous private, white sand beach with sparkling emerald surf.
